Wednesday’s are now devoted to bringing the readers up-to-date with what is going on the world of Disney with news stories (and a take or two from me from time to time). Wednesday’s will also focus on what is going on in the parks as well with attraction and show guides as well. This week, we are going to focus on mainly the news but we are going to start with a big change that is coming to Disneyland.
Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular ended its near 13-year run at Disney’s Hyperion Theater at Disney’s California Adventure. The show, which took place several times per day, debuted to Disney guests on January 16, 2003. The last show took place on January 11, 2016. The show will be replaced at a Frozen-themed stage show.
My wife saw the Aladdin show in August 2015 and gave it rave reviews. As a family, we saw the Frozen stage show at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in October 2015 and loved it. Yes, Frozen “took over” the Disney parks much like Star Wars is taking over the parks now. Aladdin was a great show and had a wonderful run but much like shows on Broadway and TV, nothing last forever, and great shows sometimes have to make way for new shows. Will the new Frozen show be as good as Aladdin, we don’t know that but everyone should give the new show a chance.
Disney released some major news for its Asian markets on January 12. The opening day for the Shanghai Disney Resort will be June 16, 2016.

Lunar New Year Celebrations will be returning to Disneyland this February 5-8 at Disney’s California Adventure. Mulan and Mishu lead the festivities and will be joined by Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and Chip n’ Dale to celebrate the Year of the Monkey on the Paradise Garden stage. Special food and merchandise will be available.
With the addition of Symphony in the Stars: A Galactic Spectacular to the Hollywood Studios night-time lineup. Walt Disney World has added a dessert party for this one-of-kind fireworks show from now until, at least, March 20th. This dessert party is $69 for adults and $39 for children aged 3-9. Guest will be able to enjoy Star Wars themed desserts before the show and then ushered to a reserved viewing area for the fireworks show. Call 407-939-3463 to make a reservation.
