Food and Wine News

Disney has released a lot of new information on some returning booths and some new booths for the 2014 Food and Wine Festival.

Four booths are returning for the 2014 Festival.  Africa, Scotland, Hawai’i and Terra will be returning for another go around.  Puerto Rico returns for the 2014 Festival after not having a booth in 2013.

What will I be able to sample at these booths?  Well, full menus have yet to released for any of these booths.  But what’s, AJ Wolfe over at the Disney Food Blog is suggesting could be at these booths.

Africa: A South African Bobotie with Turkey and Mushrooms

Hawai’i: Aulani Sunset with Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum

Scotland: Sea Scallop with Crispy Bacon and Spinach Cheddar Gratin

Terra: Blackened Chick’n Breast and Paperboy Red Wine

Puerto Rico has released a larger portion of their menu.

Papa Rellina – Crispy fried potato balls stuffed with pork and beef

Carne Guisada con Arrez Blanco – Braised Beef with Puerto Rican Rice

Medilla Light – beer

They are not the only booths to release some information.  Hops and Barley have announced a carrot cake with craisins and cream cheese icing.  While the Refreshment Spot could have one of the “must haves” of the festival….The Cronut (with or without ice cream).  The Bean to Bar area is going to have a drinkable chocolate item.  Block & Hans, a place that specialized in craft beer, will have two wines (a Chardonnay and Blanc de Noir.

Diving Into Port Orleans Resort

Today, I’m going to move away from the debate and the how to find lower airfare.  This article is going to focus solely on the Port Orleans Resort, one of Disney’s most popular moderate resorts.

Port Orleans Logo

Port Orleans is two resorts in one.  It is home to the Port Orleans French Quarter Resort and the Port Orleans Riverside resort.  The two resorts are connected into one big resort by the Sassagoula River.  There is also a boat launch at the French Quarter and Riverside which connects the resort to the Downtown Disney area.

Port Orleans Map

As you can see from the map, it is a sprawling resort.  I’m going to start over Port Orleans Riverside (at the top of the map) first and then go into Port Orleans French Quarter.

Could Princess Fairytale Hall Accommodate a Third Meet and Greet

I hadn’t given much thought about today’s article topic until I was having a twitter conversation with Lisa Green who writes the Living A Disney Life blog.  She wrote an article, late last week, about her displeasure with Anna & Elsa kicking Aurora and Snow White out of the Princess Fairytale Hall.

Disney recently made the decision to move the “other princess” (Aurora or Snow White) out of Princess Fairytale Hall.   Princess Aurora is meeting guests next to City Hall while Snow White greets guests on Center Street near Uptown Jewelers.

Taken when Aurora/Snow White/”mystery princess” still shared a space with Anna and Elsa.

This got me thinking, “Lisa does have a point.”  Is Disney pushing aside two very iconic Disney princesses to make room for a new regime?

Ways to Find Lower Airfare

Now, you have made that reservation at your favorite Disney hotel.  You’ve bought park tickets.  All you need to do is buy your plane tickets.  You go online to find flights…..THEY WANT HOW MUCH?!?!  I can’t afford that.  When did airfare get so expensive?!?!?!?

airplane

Yes, airfare like everything else as gone up in price and it can be a massive drag on a vacation budget.  It can turn standard dining plans into quick service dining plans.  A stay at Port Orleans into a stay at Pop Century.

What can you as the consumer do to combat this higher and higher cost of airline tickets?  There are many to find lower airfares and have those fares on flights that aren’t first thing in the morning on late in the night.  Dad For Disney is going to explore some of those ways.
